***UPDATE: This Event has been postponed***
Well, Texas spring weather has confounded us again. Due to the nasty forecast and the fact that Tips Concerts are outdoors on grass with no roof, we’re going to have to postpone this Thursday’s show. We’ve asked Rachel to look for another date that works for her and we’ll let you know as soon as it’s confirmed.
Thank you for being a part of LIVE MUSIC in Austin!
Join us for an intimate evening of music with Rachel Laven & Nathan Evans Fox. Read more about them below.
Tips Concerts are private events. There is a $20 suggested donation for the artists. Events are BYOB and Pot Luck & we encourage guests to bring their favorite camping chairs or picnic blankets.
To attend and receive the address, you must RSVP (fill out the form below). If you have RSVP’d and can’t make it for some reason, please let us know so we can open your spots and keep the artists with a full house!
Please review the home page “Important Information” about Tips Concerts as well as the “What to Do/Expect” “What to Bring” and “House Rules.”
Because this is our home and private property and not a formal venue, we ask that you respect and honor the guidelines outlined on the site. Thank you!!!
About the artists:
Rachel Laven www.rachellavenmusic.com
Nicknamed “The Rose of San Antone” and called “a sweeter Tanya Tucker,” Rachel Laven sings a blend of Texas Country and Americana music. Born into a home pulsing with songwriters and musicians Rachel Laven has observed the craftsmanship and labor that those before her have put into their art. A positive force of nature on stage, Laven not only captivates with her smiling lyricism but with the timber of a voice that sounds straight out of her chest. In the tradition of her cherished influences: Susan Gibson, Terri Hendrix, Walt Wilkins, and Slaid Cleaves, Laven’s vocalisations don’t strain too far from her speaking voice which is buoyant and melodic with a gentle,Texan accent. She is a powerhouse of energy, breathing through notes breezily with a passionate aire and a cool, side-smiling tonality. Her songwriting took her to new heights in 2016 when Laven won the Kerrville Folk Festival’s Newfolk Songwriting Competition. This gave her the confidence to quit three day jobs and dare to pursue a full time music career. Laven has released three albums with her family band, The Lavens, and two solo albums, Unwind (2012) and Love & Luccheses (2017). She is currently working on a third solo album set to release in 2020.
Nathan Evans Fox www.nathanevansfox.com
Nathan Evans Fox is an Americana songwriter and musician from Glen Alpine, NC. Growing up immersed in country, rock, bluegrass, and hymns, Fox synthesizes his musical roots to produce a sound all his own. He has been writing music, playing fiddle and guitar, and collaborating with other musicians for over ten years. Recently his song-crafting prowess has been recognized by the Songwriter Serenade and Wildflower! songwriting competitions including a 1st place victory at the Eddie Owens Presents Annual Songwriter Shootout this year.
Fox’s lyrics confront the difficulties of his cultural and religious heritage with quiet grief, incisive anger, and an unexpected wit. Above all, he is a storyteller whose narrative landscapes are at once familiar and strange. He has written, produced, and performed two full-length albums: Home (2017) and most recently Texas Dust, which was released in April 2018. Reviewing the title track of his recent album, MotherChurchPew.com writes that Fox punches out a song “with carefully-hewn lyrical insight delivered in his velvety twang.” Currently, he lives in Atlanta with his best friend/wife Elizabeth and their dog Maisie.
